Corpse House Exterior

Corpse House Exterior

Ask a question

This is the exterior of the Corpse House at the Moravian Church in Litiz, PA. Before embalming has a common practice a body had to lay somewhere until funeral preparations could be made; relatives could gather and a grave could be dug. Dead bodies naturally begin the process of decay very soon after death. The Moravian Church at Litiz had a number of single brothers and sisters who lived in seperate dormitories adjacent the church so a building to keep bodies was a practical necessity. One of my own relatives lived at the single sister's house until her death in 1831.

I am offering a limited matting option for 5x7 and 8x10 image sizes. These are Museum quality acid free mattes. NOTE: the price listed is for the matted image, is image and matte, not just the matte addition.
